INDIANAPOLIS – With the presence of Ashlee Zeigler as the new full-time head coach and an experienced core of returning players, the Knights are opening a new era of Marian University volleyball. They will look to build on last season's 18-13 record and their fourth place in the Crossroads League.

Ten returning players look to make an impact this season led by seniors Ashley Francis and Jaymee Singleton. Francis was named first team all-conference last year leading the Knights in kills (289) as well as blocks (86). Singleton led in digs (423) and the duo plans to anchor the team this season.

Looking to contribute along with Francis and Singleton will be juniors Becky Gramer, Katie Kaiser, Kacie Kelly, Morgan Merrill, and Karli Williamson. Kelly led the team in assists last year (881) while Williamson led in aces (32) and they both plan to improve those numbers with a year of experience behind them.

Sophomores Donala Arnold, Kirby Johnson, and Megan Ruff are back as well to round out the 2012 team. Ruff was selected to the all-freshman conference team last year with 65 kills and 13 blocks while only seeing action in 73 sets. Returning all but three players from 2011 should help first year coach Zeigler and the Knights transition smoothly into a new era of women's volleyball at Marian.

The season will begin Friday, August 28 when the Knights travel to Indiana University-East. The Knights then take part in the Trojan Classic on August 31 and September 1 that will pair them against Davenport, Robert Morris College, and Indiana Tech. The home opener is set for Saturday, September 8 at 3:00 p.m., when Crossroads League rival Goshen College comes to John Grimes Court at the Physical Education Center.
