SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - The Marian University volleyball team opened the 2012 Crossroads League season in style with a 25-12, 25-14, 23-25, 25-23 victory at Spring Arbor University on Wednesday night. The Knights improved to 2-3 on the season and are 1-0 in league play. SAU dropped to 1-10 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Junior Becky Gramer and senior Ashley Francis led the MU attack with 11 kills each, while Gramer also added eight digs in defense. The duo combined for just five hitting errors in 57 attack attempts in the match.

Junior Kacie Kelly tallied a match-high 46 assists, had six kills and just missed a double-double with nine digs in defense. She also added two block assists in the match.

Senior Jaymee Singleton led the Knights with three service aces and a team-high 22 digs, while junior Katie Kaiser added 21 digs and also had a service ace. Junior Karli Williamson was also stellar in defense with 13 digs.

The Knights will remain on the road when they head to Bethel College on Friday night for a 7 p.m. first serve in Mishawaka, Ind. They will open the 2012 home season on Saturday afternoon when Goshen College visits the Physical Education Center for a 3 p.m. first serve.
