FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Marian University men's tennis team heads into the ITA Midwest Regional Championship break having won three of its last four matches after an 8-1 victory over Franklin College in Franklin, Ind., on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights are now 4-2 on the season.

The match opened with doubles and the Knights took a quick 2-1 lead. Junior Nick Batuello and freshman Jason Denton improved to 5-1 on the year with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Mitchell Trammel and junior Tyler Scanlan moved to 4-2 in 2012 after an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. The tandem of seniors Andrew Voss and Will Dixon dropped to 2-4 on the year after they suffered a 6-8 defeat at No. 1 doubles.

The Knights proceeded to sweep through the six singles matches and earned wins in five exhibition matches to pick up the 8-1 win.

Trammel gave MU a 3-1 lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. The win brought his record to 5-1 in 2012. Scanlan also earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles to improve to 5-1 before Voss picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles to move to 2-4 in 2012.

Freshman Jack Hiatt remained undefeated (6-0) with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles before Dixon, playing in his first singles match of 2012, earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles. Freshman Ryan Heuer closed the 8-1 win with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles to bring his record to 2-4 in 2012.

Voss and Dixon will open the ITA Midwest Regional Championship in Grand Rapids, Mich., with a match against the fourth-seeded team from Aquinas College on Thursday. Freshman Jason Denton, who sat out the Franklin match, will open his first ITA competition on Thursday against 13th-seeded Wes Young from Taylor University. Freshman Ryan Heuer will also opened the competition on Thursday when he takes on second-seeded Daniel Rueda from the University of Northwestern Ohio.

The ITA Midwest Regional Championship will take place in Grand Rapids, Mich., from Thursday through Saturday.
