INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian University volleyball team earned its fifth Crossroads Conference win Saturday afternoon by defeating Mt. Vernon Nazarene. The Knights won in four sets, 25-13, 25-15, 18-25, 25-23, and used an overall team effort to get the win. The Knights now stand at 7-4 on the season and 5-1 in conference play, only one game behind Taylor University for first place.

Junior Morgan Merrill led the way for the Knights on offense with a season-high 14 kills. Merrill also recorded four digs and two block assists on the defensive end to round out a great overall performance. Also contributing on offense was senior Ashley Francis who tallied 11 kills for the Knights while posting a .526 attack percentage. She also recorded two block assists and the only two solo blocks of the match. Junior Becky Gramer recorded three service aces, which was a match-high and her season-best. She also had five kills and nine digs.

Senior Jaymee Singleton tallied 19 digs to anchor the Knights' defense and junior Kacie Kelly added 18 digs. Kelly also notched six kills and provided 43 assists, which was her fifth match this year of at least 40 assists.

Sophomores Megan Ruff and Donala Arnold also turned in a strong all-around performance. Ruff finished with eight kills and nine digs, while Arnoldson had seven kills to go along with five digs.

MU will continue conference play on Wednesday, September 19 when they travel to Grace College in Winona Lake, Ind. The first serve is set for 7 p.m.
