INDIANAPOLIS - Marian University head men's tennis coach Steve Mackell was named the 2012 Crossroads League Coach of the Year and freshman Jason Denton was named to the All-Crossroads League team, the league office announced on Friday.

Denton had a fantastic rookie season in which he went 7-5 overall at No. 2-singles. Denton finished the league season with a 4-3 mark and finished the 2012 league season with a 9-3 mark at No. 3-doubles. Denton and partner junior Nick Batuello went 6-1 in league play at No. 3. He is the first all-league selection since the 2009-10 season when Brice Fairchild earned the honor.

Mackell, who is in his third season, was named coach of the year after a breakout campaign in 2012. The Knights went 11-4 overall and 6-2 in league play. The Knights have steadily improved under Mackell's tutelage. MU went 5-10 in his first season, 10-14 in 2011-12 and finished in third place in the Crossroads League standings in 2012. He is now 26-28 in his career at Marian University and guided the Knights to a semifinal berth in the 2012 league tournament.

The Knights will open the spring season in February.
