INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University volleyball team cruised to a three-set victory over Spring Arbor University, 25-18, 25-17, 25-23, at the Physical Education Center on Wednesday night.

The Knights moved back to .500 at 11-11 overall and are now 8-5 in the Crossroads League. SAU fell to 1-22 overall and 0-12 in league play.

The two teams battled back-and-forth in the first set, which featured five ties and four lead changes. The Knights held a one-point lead, 11-10, when SAU tied it on an MU attack error. The Knights were able to open a three-point lead, 14-11, on a kill by sophomore Megen Ruff and a pair of kills by junior Kacie Kelly. SAU would cut it back to two, 16-14, before MU went on a 4-0 run sparked by an SAU setting error to take a 20-14 lead. They would play even the rest of the way before senior Ashley Francis finished the 25-18 set win.

The second set was all MU early as the Knights ran out to an 18-9 lead. However, SAU closed the lead to four with a 4-0 run and cut it to four again at 22-18 before the Knights closed out the 25-19 set win with a kill from Ruff.

The third set saw SAU open an early lead as they were able to take a six-point lead at 15-9. The lead went to seven, 18-11, before the Knights decided to show up. They were able to overcome the Cougars by out-scoring then 14-5 to earn the 25-23 win.

Ruff finished as the team leader in attack with a match-high 11 kills, while Kelly added a double-double with 10 kills and a match-high 25 assists. She also added five digs in defense.

Senior Jaymee Singleton led the way for the defense with 20 digs, while junior Karli Williamson added 15 digs and junior Becky Gramer tallied 10 digs. She also added six kills in attack for MU.

MU gets back on the court on Saturday when the Knights head to Mount Vernon, Ohio to take on Mount Vernon Nazarene University. The Knights and Cougars will battle beginning at 3 p.m.
