INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University volleyball team made it a senior night to remember for seniors Ashley Francis and Jaymee Singleton as the Knights defeated Grace College in four sets, 25-17, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19, at the Physical Education Center on Wednesday night.

Prior to the match, Francis and Singleton were honored as the 2012-13 senior class of MU volleyball as the Knights improved to 14-13 overall and 11-7 in the Crossroads League. The Lancers fell to 17-12 overall and 10-7 in league play.

Francis led the way for the Knights with a match-high 15 kills and a .481 attack percentage. She surpassed the 1,000-career kill mark as she now has 1,001 in her career. Sophomores Megen Ruff and Kirby Johnson tallied 10 and eight kills, respectively. Junior Kacie Kelly tallied 36 assists and six kills to go with her eight digs, while Singleton led the way with 24 digs in defense. Junior Karli Williamson added 11 digs and four service aces. MU tallied 10 service aces for the match and had nine total blocks (three solo, 12 assists).

The Knights jumped out quickly with an 8-2 run to open the match, but the Lancers were able to close to 16-12. A service error and a pair of kills from Ruff pushed the lead to 19-12 and the Knights were able to hold of the Lancers for a 25-17 win. Ruff had five kills and a .455 hitting percentage in the opening set to lead MU.

The second set was all Grace early as the Lancers blew out to a 9-1 lead. They maintained the lead and were able to open a 23-17 lead lead. The Knights went on a 3-0 run before the Lancers scored two of the final three points to earn the 25-21 set two victory to even the match. MU was plagued by errors in the second set as they had 12 total kills and 11 errors in the set. Francis led the way with four kills, while Ruff and sophomore Kirby Johnson each had three kills.

Set No. 3 opened a quick 5-2 lead, and the Knights held off the Lancers to maintain a 10-7 lead. A Francis kill sparked a 5-0 run to open a 15-7 lead and the Knights never looked back as the Lancers were only able to get as close as five points in MU's 25-15 win. Francis was a perfect 4-of-4 in the set, while junior Kelly tallied three kills.

The final set was a back-and-forth affair as neither team was able to get more than a two-point lead until MU took a 13-10 lead on a GC attack error. The Lancers hit for the next kill, but the Knights knocked down the next two to take a 15-11 lead. The Knights broke out to the largest lead of the set at 21-15 and never let the Lancers back in it as they earned the 25-19 set win and the 3-1 victory.

The Knights will await the Crossroads League Tournament bracket's release after the regular season is completed. The tournament will likely open on the road for the Knights on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The opponent, location and time are to be announced.
