INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University volleyball team had a pair of its student-athletes honored as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes, the national office announced during the national championship tournament.

Junior middle hitter Morgan Merrill and junior setter Kacie Kelly both earned their first academic honor. The honor is bestowed upon a student-athlete who has been nominated by her head coach, has achieved junior standing and has maintained a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Merrill, a Greenwood, Ind., native and Center Grove High School graduate, finished fourth on the team in kills in 2012 with 151. She had a .165 attack percentage, but was also used for her blocking ability. She had 43 total blocks in 2012 to finish third on the team. She has 220 kills in her three seasons at MU and has notched 64 career blocks.

Kelly, a Franklin,  Ind., native and Franklin Community High School graduate, finished as the team's setting leader. She finished the season with a career-best 967 assists and had 122 kills to earn All-Crossroads League First Team honors for the first time in her career. She finished 43rd in the nation in assists per set with 9.57 and finished second in the league in assists per set and sixth in total assists. the honor is also the first of her career.

The Knights, under first-year head coach Ashlee Pritchard, finished with a 14-14 overall record and an 11-7 mark in league play. They earned a berth in the league tournament after finishing fifth.
