ORLANDO, Fla. - The Marian University men's tennis team opened its spring season on a high note with a 9-0 win over Saint Ambrose University on Sunday afternoon at Fort Gatlin Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.

The Knights moved to 12-4 on the season. The 12 wins is the most in the three-year tenure of head coach Steve Mackell.

The Knights had no issue in the doubles competition as freshmen Jason Denton and Ryan Heuer teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 1, while junior Nick Batuello and junior Ryan Hodell won at No. 2 by an 8-5 score. Sophomores Mitchell Trammel and Willie Jansen earned a default victory at No. 3 doubles to make the team score 3-0.

Denton moved to 8-5 in 2012-13 with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Heuer picked up his fifth victory of the campaign with a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, while freshman Jack Hiatt improved to 13-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles.

Junior Tyler Scanlan moved to 9-3 on the year with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, while Trammel earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles to improve to 14-1. Freshman Taylor Kinney earned a default victory at No. 6 singles to complete the sweep for the Knights.

MU will take on the College of Saint Scholastica on Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Azalea in Orlando, Fla.
