ORLANDO, Fla. - The Marian University men's tennis team completed a perfect 4-0 spring trip with a 6-2 victory over Judson University (Ill.) on Friday morning at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. The Knights are now 15-4 in 2012-13 with the victory.
The Knights slipped behind the Eagles after the doubles competition as Judson was able to take two of three matches. Freshman Jason Denton
and junior Tyler Scanlan
fell at No. 1 doubles, 3-8, before junior Nick Batuello and sophomore Willie Jansen
fell at No. 3 doubles, 8-9 (1). Junior Ryan Hodell
and sophomore Mitchell Trammel
were the lone winners in doubles play as they earned an 9-8 (4) win at No. 2 doubles.
MU swept through the singles competition, however, to earn the 6-2 victory. Freshman Ryan Heuer
did not have a result in his match at No. 2 singles, but was leading when the match came to an end. Freshman Jack Hiatt
moved to 16-0 on the season after he earned a 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 win at No. 3 singles. Scanlan picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, while Trammel earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles to move to 17-1 in 2012-13.
Freshman Taylor Kinney
picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles, while Denton clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles.
The Knights went 4-0 on their spring trip and had one match rained out. They have now won seven of their last eight matches and eight of their last 10 dating back to the fall.
MU will return to Indianapolis and hit the road on Saturday, March 23 when they head to Indiana Tech. First serve is slated for 10 a.m.
