LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Marian University men's tennis team picked up an 8-1 win over Transylvania University on Friday afternoon in Lexington, Ky. The Knights moved to 17-8 on the season, while Transy dropped to 6-6 on the year.

The Knights opened the competition with a 2-1 win in doubles after taking No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Freshmen Ryan Heuer and Jack Hiatt teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 2, while freshman Taylor Kinney and sophomore Willie Jansen teamed for an 8-5 win at No. 3. Both duos were playing together for the first time in 2012-13. Sophomore Mitchell Trammel and junior Tyler Scanlan dropped to 9-8 on the season after a 4-8 defeat at No. 1 doubles.

The Knights swept through the singles competition. Trammel continued to build on his record-setting season as he improved to 23-1 in 2012-13 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Heuer went to three sets in his match at No. 1 singles, but improved to 9-14 on the year with a 6-1, 3-6, 10-8 win.

Freshman Jack Hiatt moved to 18-3 on the year with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, while Scanlan moved to 12-8 after a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. Kinney improved to 7-3 in 2012-13 after a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles, while Jansen rounded out the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. He improved to 2-0 in 2012-13.

The Knights will close the 2012-13 season at Centre College on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. MU will look to conclude the season with the most match wins in a single season in program history.
