MU defeated Goshen College Friday, 7-2.
INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian University men's tennis team picked up its second Crossroads League victory of the season on Friday in a 7-2 victory over Goshen College in Goshen, Ind. The Knights now sit at 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in Crossroads League play.
Freshman Danny Albert
again handled himself well at No. 1 singles after he earned a 6-1, 6-2 win to move to 2-0 on the year. Fellow freshman Marty Pochop
also picked up his second career win at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
The sophomores went 2-1 on the afternoon with Jack Hiatt
and Ryan Heuer
picking up victories at No. 3 (6-3, 6-4) and No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-4), respectively. Sophomore Jason Denton
was MU's only loss in singles play as he dropped a 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) decision.
In doubles play, Junior Mitchell Trammel
and Danny Albert
earned an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles, while senior Nick Batuello
and sophomore Taylor Kinney
also earned an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. The duo of Denton and Pochop fell at No. 1 doubles by a 6-8 score.
MU will be back in action on Tuesday when Bethel College comes to Indianapolis for a 1 p.m. first serve. The junior varsity will head to Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Ky., on Monday afternoon.
