INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian University men's tennis team now sits at 3-0 on the season and are undefeated in the Crossroads League after defeating Bethel College, 8-1, at the MU Tennis Courts in Indianapolis on Tuesday.
Tuesday afternoon saw the Knights dominate in singles play as No. 1 through No. 6 were victorious.
Sophomore's Jack Hiatt
(No. 2) and Ryan Heuer
(No. 4) each won their matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Sophomore Taylor Kinney defeated Bethel's Rafael Barreto at No. 5 singles in a hard fought 6-3, 6-4 match. Freshman Danny Albert earned his third straight victory at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win, while senior Tyler Scanlan earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. Junior Mitchell Trammel continued his winning ways with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles to move to 3-0 on the season.
MU went 2-1 in doubles play against the Pilots. The Knights won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, with the lone defeat of the afternoon coming at No. 3 doubles. The No. 3 doubles team of seniors Ryan Hodell
and Michael Higdon
fought hard in a 5-8 defeat. Both sides battled back and forth with both team's watching and cheering as they battled for every point. In the end, the Pilots would win. However, the effort shown by the seniors was inspiring as they continue to lead MU with a strong work ethic.
The Knights will be back in action on September 5 when they travel to Georgetown College in Georgetown, Ky., for a 3 p.m. first serve.
