INDIANAPOLIS - It was a whirlwind league weekend for the Marian University volleyball team as they posted a 1-1 record in league play on Friday and Saturday. On Friday night, the Knights went on the road and defeated Goshen College in three sets before falling in a five-set thriller on Saturday at home against Bethel College, which is receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Poll.

The Knights posted a 25-20, 25-20, 25-16 win on Friday night in Goshen, Ind. Senior Becky Gramer led the way for the Knights with a match-high 11 kills and also added six digs in defense. Freshman Lauren Gregory added eight kills, while freshman Emily Graves and junior Megen Ruff added six kills each.

Senior Kacie Kelly and freshman Maddie Heidenreich split time at the setter position as Kelly finished with 16 assists and Heidenreich added 14. Freshman Taylor Greenan led the defense with 22 digs. Gregory also added three solo blocks and a block assist, while Ruff added two solo blocks and a block assist.

Saturday was a much different story. The Knights exploded out of the gate by taking the first two sets by 26-24 and 25-22 scores. However, much like the Grace match earlier this week, MU came out of the second-third set interval with little fire and fell in set three by a 25-13 score. The Pilots claimed a 25-23 win in the fourth set before picking up a 15-11 win in the decisive fifth set to capture the match and stay unbeaten in league play.

Senior Becky Gramer led the way for the Knights on offense with a match-high 17 kills and added 21 digs for the double-double. Freshman Lauren Gregory added 15 kills and had two block assists, while senior Kacie Kelly had a team-high 50 assists. Freshman Taylor Greenan finished with a team-high 28 digs to lead the defense, while senior Katie Kaiser added 18 digs.

The Knights will hit the road for four straight matches beginning on Wednesday when they head to Spring Arbor University to take on the Cougars. First serve from Spring Arbor, Mich., is slated for 7 p.m.
