Freshman Marty Pochop and sophomore Jason Denton took home a 9-7 victory at No. 1 doubles.
INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian University men's tennis team remained undefeated after defeating the University of Saint Francis Tuesday, 8-1.
MU swept the Cougars in doubles play, however, the Knights were tested, as No. 1 and No. 2 singles went to 9-7. Sophomore Jason Denton
and freshman Marty Pochop
moved to 7-2 on the year at No. 1 doubles, while freshman Danny Albert
and junior Mitchell Trammel
moved to 6-2 on the season at No. 2 doubles. Senior Nick Batuello
and sophomore Taylor Kinney
finished off doubles play with an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
In singles play, the Knights went 5-1 on the afternoon with their only defeat of the match coming at No. 1 singles. Freshman Danny Albert
was defeated in what proved to be the toughest match of the afternoon, 7-6(4), 3-6, 10-8).
No. 2 through No. 5 singles played well with Denton winning 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Sophomore Jack Hiatt
took the victory at No. 3 with relative ease winning 6-0, 6-0. Pochop won at No. 5 with a score of 6-3, 6-3, while Trammel won at No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Ryan Heuer
had to battle at No. 6 singles before winning 6-3, 7-6(2).
The Knights will be back in action September 18 when they travel to DePauw University.
