HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Marian University men's tennis team moved to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the Crossroads League after they were defeated by Huntington on Saturday, 5-4.
The Knights struggled a bit in doubles play on Saturday. MU lost at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by a score of 8-6. MU's defeat at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles marked just the second time this season that the Knights have failed to get a victory at either spot. However, MU did pick up a win at No. 3 doubles after the duo of sophomore Taylor Kinney
and senior Nick Batuello
picked up an 8-4 victory.
The Knights then went on to split with the Foresters in singles play. MU picked up its first win in singles play at No. 3 when sophomore Jack Hiatt
picked up a 6-4, 6-0 victory. Junior Mitchell Trammel
picked up a victory at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory, while sophomore Ryan Heuer
finished off the day for the Knights with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
At No. 2 singles sophomore Jason Denton
battled in what could have been the match winner. Denton ended up being defeated by the Foresters' Joseph Straznicky in a 1-6, 6-3, 3-6 match.
The Knights will be back in action on September 24 in a pivotal league match at Indiana Wesleyan. First serve is scheduled to take place at 4 p.m.
