INDIANAPOLIS - The 21st-ranked Marian University women's tennis team wrapped up the No. 2 seed for the 2013 Crossroads League Tournament with a 9-0 shutout win over Grace College at the MU Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon. The Knights close the 2013 league season with an 8-2 overall record and a 7-1 mark in league play.
The 2013 finish marks the third straight season in which the Knights finished 7-1 in league and earned the No. 2 seed for the tournament.
The Knights swept through the doubles competition with senior Brittney Horlacher
and junior Hannah Knust
earning an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles to close the regular season with a 12-5 overall record and a 5-3 record in league play. Seniors Lauren Paras
and Olivia Pursell
earned an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles to improve to 8-3 on the season and 5-1 in league, while sophomores Hannah Elliott
and Colleen Yager
teamed for their first win of the year at No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
Horlacher dispatched her opponent at No. 1 singles quickly in a 6-0, 6-0 win to move to 10-5 on the year and 5-3 in league. Paras finished the win with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles to move to 10-3 on the year. She finished with a flawless 8-0 mark in league play this season.
Freshman Anna Potter
earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles to move to 11-3 on the season and she also finished with a perfect 8-0 mark in league play. Pursell moved to 7-5 on the year and 6-2 in league with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles, while Knust improved to 10-4 and 6-2 with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Freshman Grace Neathery
finished off the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles to move to 7-1 on the year and 4-0 in league play.
The Knights clinched the No. 2 seed for the Crossroads League Tournament and will face Grace at the MU Tennis Courts on Tuesday in the opening round. The match is slated for an 11 a.m. first serve.
