The Knights will take on Taylor University in the semifinals of the Crossroads League Tournament on THURSDAY. The time and location are yet to be determined. With no rain, the match will be at the MU Tennis Courts at 1 p.m. If it rains, the match will be moved to the West Indy Racquet Club.
INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 21 and second-seeded Marian University women's tennis team breezed through the first round of the 2013 Crossroads League Tournament with a 9-0 victory over seventh-seeded Grace College on Tuesday afternoon at MU Tennis Courts.
The Knights moved to 9-2 on the season, while the Lancers dropped to 3-7 in 2013-14. MU will take on the winner of the Taylor/Huntington matchup on Thursday.
MU opened with a convincing sweep of the Lancers in the doubles competition. Freshman Anna Potter
and junior Sarah Potter
teamed for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles to open the sweep. The duo is now 8-3 on the season. Seniors Olivia PUrsell and Lauren Paras
teamed for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles to move to 9-3 on the year, while senior Brittney Horlacher
and junior Hannah Knust
earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles to move to 13-5 on the season.
MU made quick work of the singles competition as the six matches were completed in just over an hour. Paras was the first to come off with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles to improve her record to 11-3 on the year. Sarah Potter
closed her match second, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles to move to 5-4 on the year and seal the match.
Horlacher earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to move to 11-5 on the season before freshman Anna Potter
moved to 12-3 on the year with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles. Knust earned her 11th win of the year at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win before Pursell finished the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.
