INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University volleyball team did something it hasn't done in 11 years at the Physical Education Center on Saturday night. The Knights defeated Taylor University, 25-16, 26-24, 25-15, for the program's first win over the Trojans since 2002 when MU defeated the Trojans, 23-30, 30-27, 28-30, 30-28, 15-13.

The Knights improved to 11-7 overall and 8-3 in Crossroads League play, while TU dropped to 12-8 overall and 8-3 in league.

Senior Becky Gramer led a Knights attack, which finished with a hitting percentage of .248, with a team-high 13 kills and finished with a double-double with 13 digs in defense. Freshman Lauren Gregory tallied nine kills, while freshman Emily Graves added seven kills.

Senior Kacie Kelly tallied 36 assists and had five block assists, while Graves added five block assists and a solo block. Freshmen Maddie Heidenreich and Taylor Greenan finished with 14 digs and 13 digs, respectively.

The Knights jumped out on the Trojans in the opening set and took a 9-3 lead. TU closed to 15-13 before MU went on a 6-0 run to take a 21-13 lead. Graves finished out the 25-16 set win with a kill, her second of the set. Junior Megen Ruff, Gramer and Gregory each had three kills in the set.

The Trojans opened the second set quickly by taking an 8-3 lead and expanded it to 16-9. TU was cruising along with a five-point lead at 21-16 before the Knights cut it to two at 21-19. Taylor took a 23-20 lead before MU went on a 4-0 run to take a 24-23 lead. TU tied it up, but Gregory and Gramer had back-to-back kills to finish off the 26-24 comeback win to take a 2-0 lead. Gramer and Gregory each had five kills in the set for MU.

The third set was all MU. The Knights jumped out to a 12-5 lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 25-15 win in the final set to complete the sweep and send TU to its second straight defeat. Gramer tallied five kills, while senior Morgan Merrill added four kills in the set.

The Knights will head to the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) on Wednesday for a vital league showdown in Fort Wayne, Ind. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
