INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian University men's tennis team had one player earn 2013 All-Crossroads League Team honors, the league office announced on Monday.
Freshman Danny Albert
was named to the all-league team in his first season as a Knight. Albert was a key cog in head coach Steve Mackell
's lineup and helped lead the Knights to the 2013 Crossroads League Tournament title on October 5.
Albert was in MU's lineup in both doubles and singles throughout the season. In singles, he saw all of his action come at No. 1 where he was 5-8 overall on the year. In No. 2 doubles, Albert was teamed up with junior Mitchell Trammel
and the duo went 9-6 overall. Albert is the second freshman in a row to earn all-league honors under Coach Mackell and just the third freshman in MU history to earn all-league honors as a newcomer.
"I was really happy that I was named all-league." said Albert, when asked about what it feels like to earn all-league honors as a freshman. "I played at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles throughout the season. I knew it was going to be tough competing with the best guys from each team. I just tried my best and I am really happy to be named to the all-league team."
The Knights will open the spring season with their annual trip to Florida, as they prepare for the NAIA National Tournament in Mobile, Ala., on May 13-17.
