INDIANAPOLIS - Marian University head volleyball coach Ashlee Pritchard is proud to announce the first commitment for the 2014-15 season of MU volleyball.

AlyxaKay Shields, who will graduate from Martinsville High School next spring, is the first to commit to MU volleyball for the 2014 season.

Shields, a 5-11 outside hitter/defensive specialist, is a Mid-States Conference Academic Athlete award winner who was named All-Mid-States Conference in each of her seasons of competition. She served as a member of the Mid-States Conference Leadership Council and was named the team's Most Valuable Player last season. She also was named an Indiana East Volleyball All-Star and has been on the honor roll in all of her years as an Artesian.

She is the sister of Beau Shields, who is a linebacker on the MU football team and plans to major in communication.

The Knights finished the 2013 season with a 17-11 overall record and a 12-6 mark in the Crossroads League. Their fourth-place finish allowed them to host the opening round of the league tournament. The 12 league victories is the most in a single league season in program history.
