INDIANAPOLIS - Marian University head women's tennis coach Cassie Mackell, the 2013-14 Crossroads League Coach of the Year, is proud to announce the fourth commitment to MU women's tennis for the 2014-15 season.

Elise Betscher, who will graduate from Lexington High School in Lexington, Ohio this coming spring, is the fourth commitment for next season.

"I am very excited to have Elise join the MU tennis family next fall," said Mackell. "Elise's team-first mentality and her tennis experience will help strengthen our program. I am excited about our future together and MU."

Betscher is a member of three state championship teams and was a third-place finisher at state. She was named the 2013 Mansfield News Journal Fall Female Athlete of the Year and was her conference's player of the year.

In doubles, she was a member of the 2013 state runner-up duo and was named All-Ohio firs team. She was a three-time All-Ohio second team selection and earned four sectional championships. She was a two-time district champion and a four-time state qualifier. She also earned berths in the state quarterfinals on three occasions. As a singles player, Betscher earned all-conference first team honors three times.

She was ranked as high as No. 2 in the Midwest Region - Northeast Ohio rankings and was as high as No. 123 in the Midwest Region. Her national ranking peaked at No. 343, but she is currently ranked No. 15 in the state of Ohio. She is a USTA Baird Cup participant representing Northeast Ohio.

Betscher joins Audrey Rang, Paige Swan and Veronica Clark as commitments for the 2014-15 season of MU women's tennis. The Knights finished the fall season with a 10-3 overall record and earned a runner-up finish in the Crossroads League for the third straight season with a 7-1 record. They will begin the spring season on March 2 when they head to West Indy Racquet Club to take on NCAA Division I IUPUI.
