KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Marian University men's tennis team battled with the 19th-ranked Northwood University Seahawks, but, ultimately, dropped a 7-2 decision at Oak Street Park in Kissimmee, Fla., on Tuesday morning.


The Knights fell to 10-10 on the year, while the Seahawks improved to 3-5 in 2013-14.

Sophomore Jack Hiatt picked up the lone singles victory for MU after he earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles. Freshman Danny Albert and sophomore Ryan Heuer earned an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles to give MU its two points.

In a match that awkwardly had its sequence altered prior to the match, the teams opened with the singles competition. Sophomore Jason Denton battled hard in the first set at No. 1 singles, but fell in a 6-7 (3-7), 0-6 decision as Hiatt earned the win at No. 3. Albert dropped his match at No. 2 singles, 2-6, 0-6, while freshman Marty Pochop fell at No. 4 singles, 3-6, 4-6. Heuer battled in his match, but fell 4-6, 4-6, while sophomore Taylor Kinney also fell by a 4-6, 4-6 score at No. 6 singles.

The Knights will have a day off on Wednesday before they take on Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) (1-7) on Thursday morning at 11:30 a.m. at Oak Street Park in Kissimmee, Fla.
