ROCKFORD, Mich. – The Marian University men's tennis team defeated Cornerstone on Saturday, 5-2. The Knights were unable to fit in No. 5 and No. 6 singles due to a time limit at MVP Rockford. MU's match with Cornerstone was the Knights second of the day, as MU played No. 20 Davenport earlier in the day in Grand Rapids, Mich.


The Knights went 1-2 in doubles play vs. Cornerstone on Saturday. MU's lone victory in doubles came at No.3 doubles where freshman Danny Albert and sophomore Ryan Heuer won, 8-6. At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Jason Denton and freshman Marty Pochop fell 8-4 and at No. 2 doubles senior Nick Batuello and sophomore Taylor Kinney fell in a close 9-7 match.

In singles play, the Knights won at spots one through four. Due to time No. 5 and No. 6 singles were unable to finish. Denton won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-3, while at No. 2 Albert won 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. Then at No. 3 Pochop won 7-6(5), 7-6(4), while at No. 4 Heuer won 7-5, 6-3.

The Knights will be back in action on March 25 when they travel to No. 23 Olivet Nazarene.
