ROCKFORD, Mich. - The 21st-ranked Marian University women's tennis team closed out a difficult doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with an 8-0 victory over Cornerstone University at the MVP Athletic Club in Rockford, Mich.
The Knights improved to 15-5 on the years as they swept through the matches that were completed and earned wins in the positions that were not filled.
Senior Brittney Horlacher
and junior Hannah Knust
teamed at No. 1 doubles to earn an 8-1 win before senior Olivia Pursell
and sophomore Hannah Elliott
earned an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Junior Sarah Potter
and freshman Anna Potter
earned a win by default at No. 3 doubles.
Horlacher earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles to move to 15-10 on the year, while Knust earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles to improve to 16-8 in 2013-14. Senior Lauren Paras
moved to 12-6 on the year with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, while freshman Grace Neathery
was unable to finish her match at No. 4 singles due to time. Pursell and Potter both earned wins by default at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Knights have a pair of difficult matches ahead as they head to 24th-ranked Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill., on Tuesday before traveling to 22nd-ranked Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Ky., on Friday.
