INDIANAPOLIS - The 21st-ranked Marian University women's tennis team improved to 16-9 on the season with a 9-0 win over Indiana Tech at the MU Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon. It marked the fifth time this season that the Knights earned a sweep in a match.
Freshman Anna Potter
became the single-season record holder for singles victories after she earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. Potter broke the record of 21 singles wins that was set in 2011-12 and shared by her sister, junior Sarah Potter
, and senior Olivia Pursell
. Anna Potter
improved to 22-6 on the year with the victory.
Senior Brittney Horlacher
improved to 16-14 on the season after a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles, while junior Hannah Knust
moved to 18-11 in 2013-14 with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. Senior Olivia Pursell
improved to 14-12 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, while freshman Grace Neathery
moved to 14-3 on the year with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Colleen Yager
the win at No. 6 singles after the Warriors did not field a player.
In doubles, Horlacher and Knust earned an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles to move to 18-14 on the year, while Pursell and Anna Potter
moved to 5-1 in 2013-14 with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles. Yager and Sarah Potter
earned a default win at No. 3 doubles after the Warriors did not field a duo.
The Knights will close the 2013-14 regular season on Sunday afternoon when they head to 19th-ranked Campbellsville University for a 3 p.m. first serve in Campbellsville, Ky.
