INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University volleyball team got a total team effort as the Knights were able to pick up their first Crossroads League win on Wednesday night in a 25-9, 25-16, 25-15 win over Spring Arbor University at the Physical Education Center.

MU improved to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in league play, while the Cougars dropped to 1-13 overall and 0-5 in league.

The Knights had an outstanding evening on the attack as they hit .347 for the match and committed just 10 errors in 98 attacks. Freshman Ericka Ham led the way with a match-high 10 kills and a .529 hitting percentage. She also added nine digs in defense and had three block assists.

Sophomore Lauren Gregory added nine kills and five digs, while freshmen McKenzie Mason and Crystal Williams each notched seven kills. Freshman AlyxaKay Shields notched a team-high 12 digs in her first start as a libero. Sophomore Maddie Heidenreich tallied a match-high 22 assists and added eight digs, while freshman Julie Hoying added 15 assists and five digs.

MU jumped out quickly on the Cougars as they opened a 12-3 lead in the first set and never looked back. The Knights shut SAU down with the score 19-9 and finished off the set with the final six points for the 25-9 win. MU hit .419 in the set and Gregory tallied five kills.

The same held true for the second set as MU jumped out to a 10-4 lead. SAU would get to within six of MU at 20-14, but the Knights slammed the door with five of the final seven points to take the 2-0 lead. Ham led the way as she hit .500 for the set and tallied a set-high six kills.

The third set played much closer as it featured seven ties and four lead changes. The teams alternated the lead until the score read 7-7. MU went on a 4-0 run to take an 11-7 lead before SAU closed the gap to 11-9. MU rattled off the next seven points to take an 18-9 lead, but with the score 19-11, SAU closed it to four at 19-15. MU would score the set's final six points to seal the sweep with a 25-15 win. Three Knights tallied three kills in the set as MU's hitting percentage was just .300 for the set.

The Knights will get back on the court on Friday when they head to Goshen College for a league showdown with the Maple Leafs in Goshen, Ind. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
