HILTON HEAD, South Carolina - The Marian College men's tennis team looked to close out its spring trip with a victory over Wittenberg University, but the Tigers did not oblige as they defeated the Knights, 7-2, in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Sophomore
Brice Fairchild (New Castle, Indiana/Tri) earned his eighth victory at No. 1 singles as he earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles. He also teamed with freshman
Matt Hostetler (Shipshewana, Indiana/Westview) for an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles.
Hostetler fell in his third singles match at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 5-7, 3-10, while junior
Joe Nelson (Indianapolis/Cathedral) lost, 3-6, 2-6.
Junior
Jeff Graf (Sunman, Indiana/East Central) lost his match at No. 4 singles, 1-6, 6-1, 3-10, while junior
Stedman Carmony (Arlington, Indiana/Greenfield) lost his match at No. 5 singles, 2-6, 3-6.
Freshman
Cory Rayhill (Loogootee, Indiana/Loogootee) also dropped his match at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 7-10.
Graf and Nelson fell at No. 1 doubles, 5-8, and Rayhill teamed with freshman
Austin Hall (Indianapolis/Lutheran) for a 2-8 defeat at No. 3 doubles.
The Knights get back into action when they host Rose-Hulman at the Marian College Tennis Courts at 12 noon on Sunday, April 5.
