INDIANAPOLIS - Marian University men's tennis senior Jason Denton was named the Crossroads League Player of the Week after picking up a critical win during a difficult week for the league regular season and tournament champions, the league office announced on Monday.

Denton, an Elkhart, Ind., native, posted a 1-1 singles record on the week as the Knights endured a pair of defeats to top 15-ranked teams last weekend.

He registered the lone win in an 8-1 defeat to No. 4-ranked Northwestern Ohio after he picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win over ITA No. 7-ranked Daniel Rueda at No. 1-singles.

In his other singles match, against No. 14-ranked Cardinal Stritch (Wis.), Denton gave ITA No. 12-ranked Fabio Perasso all he could handle in a 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 5-10 defeat on Saturday.

Denton is the second consecutive Knight to earn the weekly honor after junior Marty Pochop earned the award last week. It is the fifth weekly honor for the Knights this season and the second of the campaign for Denton.

The No. 25 Knights will get back on the court on April 2 when they host Georgetown College (Ky.) in the final home match of the 2015-16 season as they prepare for the NAIA National Championship in Mobile, Ala., on May 17-21.
