The Crossroads League Champion and 25th ranked Men's Tennis team fell to 15-9 on Saturday, April 16th as they lost a tough match at Davenport University, 5-4. Davenport is currently just outside of the top 25 in the country, and proved to be just a little bit stronger than the Knights that day.

The Knights got off to a slow start, losing two of three doubles matches. At first doubles, senior Jason Denton and juinior Marty Pochop earned a big win against Matthew McClurg and Matthew Boyle, 8-2.

Freshman Alex Wittenbaum and junior Danny Albert dropped an 8-3 decision at second doubles, and seniors Jack Hiatt and Taylor Kinney lost in a tight battle at third doubles, 8-6.

The Knights were down 2-1 going into singles play. Freshman Nathan Bogle lost a close match at 4 singles to put the Knights down 3-1, but then the comeback started. Hiatt and Denton pulled out huge straight set wins at fourth and first singles to tie the match score at 3 all.

Then, after a three and a half hour battle, Pochop lost a tight match at two singles to put the Knights down 3-4. Davenport only had to win one more match to clinch, and they did at six singles, as Kinney fell in straight sets. Davenport clinched the win here.

Albert did give the Knights momentum moving forward, as he won an extremely tight match at five singles to improve the final score of the match to 5-4.

The Knights return home after a four match road trip for two weeks of preparation before hitting the road for their final regular season match of the year when they take on DIII Hanover College on April 30th. They will then compete in the NAIA National Tournament for only the second time in program history on May 17th in Mobile, Alabama.
