INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian men's tennis team opened its season and Crossroads League play with a convincing 8-1 victory over Huntington Wednesday at the Marian Tennis Courts. The match was MU's first of the season after the MU Doubles Tournament was canceled Saturday.

"This match was a great test for our opening conference match," said head coach Steve Mackell. "We fought hard in doubles, winning all three, while playing our aggressive style."

The Knights swept the doubles play as Danny Albert and Nathan Bogle defeated Ignacio Pongo and Rodrigo Manzo 8-6. Ian Dieters and Marty Pochop defeated Giovanni Martinez and Mariano Echevarria 8-4, while Patrick Holly and Alex Wittenbaum earned a win over Luke Buttermore and David Bananowski by the same score.

Pochop defeated Pongo in singles play, while Bogle won his match 6-1, 6-3. Albert earned a 6-3, 6-4 win and Dieters picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Wittenbaum lost his first set, but bounced back to win the next two for the win.

The Knights will now host Indiana Wesleyan Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Marian Tennis Courts.
