MARION, Ind. – For the first time this season, the Marian volleyball team fell in Crossroads League play, losing 3-0 to 25th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan in Marion, Indiana. The Knights are now 7-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.


All three sets were closely contested, and none more than the first set. Indiana Wesleyan won 28-26 and then won set two, 25-23. The Knights were unable to rally in the third set and fell 25-21 to seal the match. 

Indiana Wesleyan held an advantage in kills 40-37, while Marian recorded 145 total attacks to IWU's 124. The Knights committed 22 errors compared to Indiana Wesleyan's 19.

Six different players recorded five kills or more, led by Anne Strevals' eight. Frannie Stephenson and AlyxaKay Shields each finished with seven kills, while Ericka Ham, Kristen Buss and Emily Graves chipped in with five apiece.

The Knights finished the match with 35 assists and Julie Hoying and Madi Heffron accounted for 31 of them. Hoying recorded 20, while Heffron finished with 11. Vanessa Lay finished with a team-high 23 digs and the Knights were helped by Megan Hawley's nine and Heffron's eight.
