INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian volleyball team honored their two seniors while prior to winning their third straight match Friday night as the Knights defeated the St. Francis (Ind.) Cougars 3-1. The win improves the Knights record to 19-11 overall on season, while moving to 8-8 in Crossroads League play. The win pushes Marian into fourth place in conference standings, inching closer to clinching a home match during the Crossroads League Conference Tournament.

Marian took the first set with relative ease, winning 25-13. In the second set it looked like all was lost for the Knights as they trailed 21-15, but they stormed back to win 26-24. They almost did it again in the third set, but came up short 25-23. Marian left no doubt in the fourth set, sealing the win with a 25-12 victory.

Although it was senior day, it was freshman Anne Strevels that led Marian in kills in the contest. Strevels recorded 13 kills with a .545 kill percentage. Senior Emily Graves and junior Frannie Stephenson each recorded 12 kills. Julie Hoying would led both teams with 24 assists, while Megan Hawley led the Knights with 18 digs.

Vanessa Lay and Maddie Heidenreich led the Knights with two service aces each, while also recording 14 and four digs each, respectively.

Marian looks to finish their week 3-0 as the Knights host Grace College at 5:00 p.m. Tomorrow's match is the last regular season match at home this season. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
