COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Marian wrestling team competed at the Lindsey Wilson Duals Saturday and came away with a 1-2 record. The Knights fell in their first two matches, but ended the day with a win over St. Andrews.
Marian opened the day with a dual against Life University and struggled early. Chris Sharp and Cole Lukaszka each fell in their matches at the 125 and 149 classes, respectively, while Marian forfeited the 133 and 141 matches.
Down 22-0, Trezdon O'Neal picked up a 10-9 win by decision at the 157 class. Brett Johnson followed with a 15-10 win by decision at the 165 class, but those would be Marian's lone wins of the dual.
Luke Dunn (174), Charlie Hill (184), Zach Worm (197) and Derek Lewis (285) all fell at their respective weight classes.
Marian followed with another defeat, falling 35-3 to Brewton-Parker. O'Neal was the lone Knight to pick up a win as he defeated Jarett Henry 9-3 at the 165 class. Two matches were double forfeited and Marian had to forfeit another at the 141 class.
Marian rounded out the day by taking down St. Andrews 25-15. Sharp opened the dual with a 13-7 win by decision. After a double forfeit at 133, Marian was forced to forfeit the 141 match as well. Lukaszka then fell, 6-4, by decision at the 149 class, but O'Neal won his third match of the day at 157.
Johnson followed with a win by fall in 16 seconds. Dunn was also defeated 6-4 in the 174 match, but Hill answered with an 11-3 win by major decision at 184. Worm picked up a win by fall in 1:34 for Marian's final win of the dual. Lewis was defeated 5-1 in the heavyweight match.
The Knights will wrestle at home Feb. 1 against MacMurray at 7 p.m.
