INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian wrestling team battled, but fell 28-27 to MacMurray College Wednesday night at the Physical Education Center in Indianapolis. The Knights held a 27-22 lead heading to the final match, but MacMurray won the winner-take-all match and took home the victory.
The night started with Chris Sharp facing Dylan Holliday at the 125 weight class. Sharp fell behind early in the first, but answered 30 seconds later. The first period ended tied at three and Sharp added two more early in the second. Holliday pulled within one with a minute remaining in the period and added a two-point takedown just before the end of the second to take a 6-5 lead. The two went back and forth in the third and a two-point takedown with 45 seconds remaining from Sharp was the difference as he won 10-9.
The Knights forfeited the 133 match, and at the 141 class Logan Hurley fell to Braedon Clopton 16-4. Marian forfeited the 149 match, while MacMurray had to forfeit the 157 and 165 matches. In the 174 match, Luke Dunn lost by fall in the first period to Aleczander Moore.
With his team down 22-15, Charlie Hill answered with a win by fall in the 184 match and Zach Worm won by fall as well in the 197 match. Both wins came in the first period and gave the Knights a 27-22 lead going into the final match. However, MacMurray recovered and Trevor Wilson defeated Derek Lewis in the 285 match to seal a 28-27 win for the Highlanders.
The Knights will be back in action Sunday at UIndy as they compete in the Greyhound Open.
