HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Marian women's basketball team has extended it's winning streak to 13 games with an 84-74 win at Huntington Saturday in Huntington, Indiana. The win makes Marian 25-3 overall and 15-1 in the Crossroads League.

Dejah Cyrus set the tone early for the Knights, stuffing the stat sheet before the game was even five minutes old. She scored six points and grabbed three rebounds, while blocking a shot and dishing out an assist in the first four minutes. The all-around play helped Marian to a quick 12-2 lead by the first timeout.

Efficient shooting aided the Knights the rest of the way through the quarter as Marian finished 10-for-14 from the field and built a 24-17 lead by the quarter's end. The Knights scored 16 points in the paint and six off of Huntington turnovers.

The Foresters opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer to cut the lead to four, and later trimmed it to one with back-to-back buckets just before the five minute mark. Marian did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the half, largely due to the fact that a high percentage of points came from close range. The Knights struggled from deep, hitting just 3-of-12, but scored 28 points in the paint. Marian led 41-39 at the half.

After halftime, a reinvigorated Knights team pushed the lead back to double digits briefly, but Huntington refused to go away. The Foresters trimmed the lead back down to four midway through the quarter and Marian led 63-59 after the third. Huntington then took its first lead of the game at the 8:30 mark of the fourth on a 3-pointer to go up 64-63.

A Jessica Almeida 3-pointer on the next possession gave the Knights back the lead and Marian would held the lead until the four minute mark when Huntington took it back with a pair of free throws. With 2:45 to play, Ana Kirby canned a three out of a timeout to give Marian a two-point lead and Almeida extended it to four a minute later with a steal and score.

The run was the difference in the game as Marian closed out Huntington, winning its 13th-straight, 84-74. The Knights shot 53 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle 35-31. Almeida led all scorers with 21 points, while Sullivan recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Cyrus finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Kellie Kirkhoff was in double figures as well with 12 points.

Marian will travel to Bethel for a 7 p.m. tip Wednesday night. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
