ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Marian lacrosse team battled, but ultimately fell 10-8 to Concordia-St. Paul Sunday in St. Paul, Minnesota. The loss drops Marian to 1-1 on the young season.

Goals came early and often in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Concordia had no issues offensively in the early going, scoring three goals in three minutes to take an early lead. Rachel Moning put the Knights on the board 10 minutes in with an unassisted goal to make it 3-1, but Concordia answered 63 seconds later with another goal to make it 4-1.

With 15:58 to play in the first half, the Golden Bears tacked on another to take a four-goal advantage, but Breanna DeJong scored her fifth goal of the season 38 seconds later for the Knights. After Concordia scored again with 12:41 to play in the half, Kori Garland answered with a goal 43 seconds later to make it 6-3. The score would hold until halftime.

In the second half, Marian struck first with a goal from Katie McHugh just 1:16 into the half. Moning was credited with an assist on the score. Garland then scored 1:40 later to bring the Knights within one off an assist from Julia Robson. However, the Golden Bears found the back of the net twice in the next six minutes to go back up by three.

Marian would not go away easily though. Within a 4:30 span, the Knights scored three times to tie the game at eight apiece thanks to goals from Moning and two from DeJong. Robson was credited with another assist on DeJong's third of the day. Tied at eight with 11:09 to play, Concordia scored two more times and held off the Knights, handing Marian its first loss of the season.

Casey Monohan made 24 saves in the net for the Knights and Marian was outshot 40-16. Marian won seven draw controls compared to CSP's 13 and the Knights committed 12 fouls to CSP's 29.

The Knights will be in action Feb. 28 for the team's home opener against Franklin at 6 p.m. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
