JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Marian men's distance medley relay team highlighted the first day of NAIA Track and Field Indoor Nationals Thursday in Johnson City, Tennessee. Five different relay teams competed - three men's teams and two women's teams.

The night began with the women's 4x800 meter relay semifinals. Marian's quartet of Olivia KoehlAnna DudleyRachel Dever and Kiersten Schrope finished fifth in the first heat with a time of 9:43.45. Northwestern (Iowa) won the heat with a time of 9:19.46. Overall, the Knights finished 16th.

The men's 4x800 meter relay followed and the Marian team of Chandler BallJames BryantBryson Tretter and Conor Smith also picked up a fifth place finish. The Knights crossed the line in 8:03.60 and finished 20th overall.

Later in the evening, the men's 4x400 meter relay team finished fourth in their heat and 10th overall with a time of 3:19.45. Aaron Murray ran the first leg for the Knights, while Mychal Vinson went second. After Vinson's exchange to Sogo Akinyosoye, Akinyosoye took off and moved from fourth place to second. However, his burst could not be maintained and he drifted back to fourth. Zach Sneiderwine kept the Knights in that position with the last leg.

Both the men and women finished the night with the distance medley relay. On the women's side, the Knights' team of Dever, Raven Gibson, Koehl and Schrope finished 16th overall and ninth in their heat with a time of 13:02.38. The men's team of Presley Martin, Murray, Gabe Ocasio and Isaak Haas finished third in their heat with a time of 10:11.07, which was good enough for sixth overall and a spot in the finals. The Knights finished two seconds behind Dordt for the win in the heat and less than a second behind Cardinal Stritch for second place.
