ORLANDO - The Marian men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule early Monday morning and was defeated 7-2 by Grand Valley State in Orlando, Florida. The Knights are 11-2 on the season.

The Knights went 0-3 in doubles play, but put up a fight in all three. At No. 1 doubles, Marty Pochop and Nathan Bogle fell 8-4 to Zach Phillips and Alex Steenoven. Alex Wittenbaum and Ian Deiters also lost 8-4 at No. 2 and Marcus Hirsch and Kirby Tobin dropped an 8-1 decision at No. 3.

In singles play, Pochop was defeated 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1, while Bogle lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2. Wittenbaum picked up a win for the Knights at No. 3, beating Eric Zwemer 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 in a hard fought contest. Deiters was also victorious in singles play, picked up a 7-5, 5-7, 11-9 win in a battle at No. 4. Hirsch fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and Tobin lost 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.
