INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian women's lacrosse team staged a major first half comeback, but suffered an 11-9 defeat at the hands of Ottawa University Monday night on St. Vincent Field. The loss drops Marian to 5-5 on the season.

The game was delayed roughly 45 minutes due to lightning in the area, but when the two teams were finally able to take the field, the first half was a tale of two different 15 minute segments. Ottawa jumped all over Marian, scoring the first five goals before the game was 13 minutes old. Paige Fayette scored three of the goals for the Braves, but the Knights woke up halfway through the period.

Kori Garland scored the first two goals for Marian with 13:37 and seven minutes to play. Both of Garland's goals were unassisted and the Knights added three more before the end of the half. All three goals came on free position shots with Julia Robson scoring two and Rachel Moning added another. The two teams went to the half tied at five.

In the second half, Marian picked up where it left off in the first, scoring a quick goal to take its first lead of the night. Robson was at it again, scoring just 18 seconds into the half to make it 6-5 Marian. However, Ottawa scored the next four goals and took the lead back, 9-6, with 15:27 to play. Moning netted another goal with 14:41 to play to cut into the lead, but the Braves scored twice to answer and led 11-7 with 7:50 to play.

The Knights attempted one final comeback attempt as Robson scored off an assist from Moning with 2:50 to play, and Garland scored off an assist from Robson with 1:48 to play. That was all the Knights could manage though, and Marian dropped its fourth match decided by three goals or less.

Ottawa outshot Marian 30-16 and held advantages in draw controls and ground balls. Casey Monahan made 12 saves in the net, while Robson scored four goals to lead Marian. Garland added three goals and Moning scored twice.

Marian will travel to Asbury March 28 for a 4 p.m. first draw. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
