UPLAND, Ind. - The Marian men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Taylor University over the weekend to compete in the Indiana Little State Championships. The women earned a third place finish out of 15 teams, while the men placed fifth out of 15.

For the men, Sogo Akinyosoye and Richard Von Behr finished second and third, respectively, in the 100 meters as Akinyosoye finished in 11.15 seconds and Von Behr was 0.06 behind him. The two also picked up top 10 finishes in the 200 meters as well. Akinyosoye finished fifth in 22.93 seconds, while Zach Sneiderwine crossed the line sixth and Von Behr was seventh.

Moussa Conde had a quality day on the track and it started with the 400 meters for him as he qualified for nationals with a time of 48.23 seconds. Sneiderwine finished third. In the 800, James Bryant finished eight in 1:58.85. Isaak Haas continued his stellar spring in the distance races with a second place finish in the 10,000 meters. Daniel Santos finished 10th in the same race.

In the 400 meter hurdles, Marcus Griffin finished fourth in 56.01 seconds. The 4x400 team of Conde, Sneiderwine, Aaron Murray and Mychal Vinson finished second in the relay, but qualified for nationals in the process. The 4x800 relay team of Bryant, Michael Schiefelbein, Marcos Keefe and Bryson Tretter earned a fifth place finish.

In the field events, Jonathon Greene finished second at 1.98 meters, while Emil Belmontes finished ninth. Marcellion Gardner finished fifth in the long jump, and Garrett Johnson and Clayton Wilson finished third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault. Bryan Goodin and Belmontes finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the triple jump. Drezden Johnson finished fifth in the javelin.

For the women, their impressive day began in the 100 with Lateefah Birks' second place finish in 12.43 seconds. Birks also finished seventh in the 200 meters, while Kyndal Herring crossed the line third in 27.08 seconds. Raven Gibson finished fourth in the 400 in just over a minute, and Olivia Koehl and Anna Dudley finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 800.

The distance events went well for the Knights as Rachel Dever finished fourth in the 5,000 meters, and a trio of runners placed in the top 10 in the 10,000 meters. Brittany Sharp qualified for nationals with a time of 38:00.15, which was good enough for third. Sarah Wieser finished seventh and Morgan Hayse finished ninth. 

In the 100 meter hurdles, Mieke Paulick finished sixth in 15.99 seconds, and Tamia Mills was right behind in seventh place. Kylee Kasper and Hope Spaulding took sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 400 meter hurdles, while Kiersten Schrope finished second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and Dudley took sixth. The 4x100 meter relay team of Birks, Gibson, Herring and Mills finished third in 49.18 seconds.

Paulick continued to perform well in the high jump, placing fifth this weekend, while Mills, Herring and Amelia Robben took fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the long jump. Robben's leap of 10.90 meters also earned her a second place finish in the triple jump. In the throwing events, Sarah Corbin finished eighth in the discus, while Karen Jones finished second in the javelin.
