Allendale, Mich. - Members of the Marian track and field team competed this weekend in the Last Chance Meet hosted by Grand Valley State University. The meet provides a final opportunity for athletes to meet the standards for qualify for their respective national championships. 


For the women, Lateefah Birks picked up a second place finish in the 100 meter dash, finishing in a time of 12.29 seconds. Birks was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay, who picked up the win as they ran unopposed. Birks, Raven Gibson, Kyndal Herring, and Olivia Koehl finished the race in 3:56.62.

In the women's steeplechase, Kiersten Schrope took first place with a time of 11:42.29. 1.95 meters

Herring kept busy, competing in the long jump, finishing in seventh place. Her best jump was 5.3 meters.

On the men's side, Aaron Murray took seventh place in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 22.55 seconds. Murray also ran the 400 meter dash, as he finished the race in ninth place with a time of 49.57 seconds.

Also in the 400 meter dash, Zach Sneiderwine finished eighth, and Mychal Vinson finished tenth. Sneiderwine ran a 49.57, while Vinson crossed the line in 50.39 seconds.

Jeremy Shupperd was the lone Knight to compete in the 110 meter hurdles, and he finished sixth in a time of 15.29 seconds.

In the 400 meter hurdle race, Marcus Griffin finished in seventh place with a time of 54.69 seconds.

Gabriel Ocasio took on the challenge of the steeplechase race, coming in second after running a 9:32.35.

In the field events, Emil Belmontes finished third in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.95 meters. Marcellion Gardner finished seventh in the long jump, with his longest leap coming at 7.02 meters.
