KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Knights lost in their second game of the NAIA Tournament Opening Round Monday afternoon to Keiser University, 4-1. Keiser took the lead in the top of the eighth inning to go ahead 2-1, and then added two runs to their advantage in the ninth. The loss drops Marian's record to 30-22 on the season.

Marian got off to a strong start in the first inning of the game, as John O'Malley led things off with a single. O'Malley moved to third base six pitches later, as a throwing error moved him to third base on Skyler McCool's infield smack, leaving runners on the corners. Cody Earl finished the job, delivering an RBI fielder's choice to score O'Malley, giving the Knights a 1-0 lead.

The game remained a 1-0 contest over the next two innings, thanks to dominant pitching from Brendon Neal. Neal limited Keiser's opportunities, allowing three baserunners while recording two strikeouts through the first three innings.

The Seahawks were able to score their first run in the top of the fourth inning, as a two-out double in the left-center field gap scored a runner from second, evening the score at 1-1. Neal didn't let the run faze him, forcing a fly-out to end the inning.

Keiser and Marian had little luck scoring from the fifth through seventh innings, with both teams stranding their runners on base. Marian had a great opportunity to score in the bottom half of the sixth, with Tyler Glenn and Zack St. Pierre sitting on second and first, respectively. Jordan Jackson ripped what could have been a 2-RBI double into gap in left field, but a heroic catch by the Keiser center fielder robbed Marian of their chance to score.

Entering the eighth inning tied at one, Keiser was finally able to kick the door open. With one out on the scoreboard, the Seahawks hit back-to-back extra-base hits to plate one run, giving them a 2-1 lead. Brendon Neal finished the inning strong, picking off a runner at first base and ending the frame with a strikeout.

Keiser added to their lead in the ninth inning, scroing two runs on relief pitcher Zeke Howie. Marian was unable to pick up a run in their final two at-bats, recording only one hit, ultimately dropping the game 4-1.

Despite taking the loss, Neal pitched an excellent game, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out six hitters. Offensively, Leo Lopez led Marian at the dish with two hits.

The Knights will play again tomorrow night in an elimination game. Marian will face the winner of Talladega College and Tennessee Wesleyan University. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
