Hayden Strong of Invercargill, New Zealand has committed to Marian University Cycling, Head Coach Dean Peterson announced this week.

Upon graduation from Southland Boys High School, Strong plans to relocate to Indianapolis, Indiana and pursue a degree in Marketing/Business Management at Marian while racing on the track and road for the Cycling Knights.

"Studying in New Zealand for me would have meant all but giving up on my cycling dreams and ambitions, while studying at Marian enables me to keep pursuing this path while preparing for a career," said Strong when asked why he chose to pursue collegiate studies in America. "Marian puts me on a path more likely to lead to a place where I want to go."

Strong has been racing since age 11 and competes predominately on the track and road, recently earning the New Zealand U17 National Championship in both the scratch race and team pursuit. He's also no stranger to racing in North America, having competed at the Canadian elite junior stage race Tour L'Abitibi in 2016 and wearing the points leader's jersey there. Outside of cycling, he volunteers as a lifeguard and enjoys anything in the outdoors.

"Having Hayden choose to study at Marian and be a part of our team highlights the University's commitment to international students, an effort that our team is happy to be a part of," said Coach Peterson.
