INDIANAPOLIS - Lindsay Gardner has been hired as the new Marian Cheerleading coach, announced by Director of Athletics Steve Downing Thursday morning. Gardner replaces Kiley Kallenberger as the new spirit coach, who resigned from her position with Marian University in June.

Gardner brings a colorful cheer and dance background to Marian, working primarily as a freelance choreographer in the Indianapolis area for the past 10 years. Gardner most recently was a WERQ fitness class instructor at Butler University, where she also spent the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons as the Bulldogs Dance Team coach. As coach of the Bulldogs, Gardner coordinated the travel accommodations for the NCAA Tournament games, while also building awareness for her team by making public appearances in the city. In her freelance work, she has choreographed dance routines for halftime shows at five different high schools.

"I'm excited about coaching the cheerleaders competitively and developing a team of respectful athletes that continues to build the spirit program," said Gardner.

She has been dancing for nearly 30 years, and was previously an Indiana Pacemate as part of her professional career.

"I am excited to announce the hiring of Lindsay Gardner as our next cheerleading coach," said Director of Athletics Steve Downing. "She brings a wealth of experience to this position and knows how to get the most out of a cheerleader.

"Cheerleading is a big part of our community here at Marian University, and their enthusiasm plays a major role on the outcome of our games. I feel confident that Lindsay is the right person to take our cheerleading abilities to another level."

This season is the second in which competition cheerleading has been approved as an NAIA Championship sport. A schedule of the Knights competitions will be released once it has been finalized. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
