INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian women's basketball team will enter the 2017-18 season as the two-time defending NAIA national champions. On Thursday, the Knights released their 2017-18 schedule.

"Every year we welcome the challenge of playing the very best across the country," said head coach Katie Gearlds. "This year is no different as seven of our 12 non-conference games are against NAIA National Tournament qualifiers. This will help prepare us for the grind of the Crossroads League, which is one of the best leagues in the country."

The quest for a three-peat begins Oct. 29 with an exhibition at NCAA Division I member, Vanderbilt before the regular season and home opener Halloween night against Pikeville at 6 p.m. After two weeks on the road, the Knights return to Indianapolis to take on IU-East and Simmons College of Kentucky back-to-back days on Nov. 14 and 15, respectively.

"We graduated a lot of stats in Jess Almeida, Ana Kirby and Jenna Sullivan, but we love the make up of our team and look forward to the challenge of getting better every day," said Gearlds.

Marian will open Crossroads League play Nov. 21 at home against Mount Vernon Nazarene and it will be the final home game before Thanksgiving. Over the holiday, the Knights will travel to Miami to play two games following Thanksgiving. The month of December will feature only one home game when Marian hosts Spring Arbor Dec. 2, while a matchup at Indiana Wesleyan Dec. 6 highlights the month.

Marian will host five conference home games in the month of January, including IWU on Jan. 31, before hosting Huntington Feb. 10 and Bethel on Valentine's Day night. Marian closes the regular season at Goshen Feb. 17.
