WHITING, Ind. - The Marian men's soccer team scored an early goal against Calumet St. Joseph, but it was not enough as the Crimson Wave came from behind to hand the Knights a 3-1 defeat Friday night in Whiting, Indiana. With the loss, Marian is 1-2 on the season.

It took only two minutes for Nicolas Barrera to find the back of the net as the Marian forward put the visitors on the scoreboard early. Barrera's shot was one of two he would take on the night and it gave Marian an early lead, something they had not played with yet this season.

The rest of the match belonged to Calumet St. Joseph as the Crimson Wave found an equalizer in the 12th minute and the go-ahead goal in the 23rd minute. A third goal in the 44th minute would seal the deal for CCSJ as the score held for the second 45 minutes.

Calumet outshot Marian 12-11 and the Crimson Wave attempted all three corner kicks in the match. Four different Knights took two shots and Caleb Gmyrek made one save in the net.

Marian will be back in action Sept. 9 when the Knights host Midway at 7:30 on St. Vincent Field. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
