Rio Grande, Ohio - Saturday the Marian volleyball team wrapped up play at the Emileigh Cooper Memorial Tournament hosted by the University of Rio Grande. After taking two Friday night, Marian kept the momentum rolling by taking two more matches in straight sets. The Knights swept host Rio Grande in the morning game, coming back in the afternoon to do the same against Midway. The pair of wins gives Marian a perfect week at 5-0, improving their record to 8-2 overall. Marian swept three of their four opponents this weekend. 

Game 1 | Marian 3-0 Rio Grande

Marian made quick work of the hosts Rio Grande, starting the morning off with a 3-0 sweep. The sweep was the fifth of the season, as the match went 25-15, 25-12, 25-20 in favor of the Knights. 

The Knights continued their balance approach in the first match of the day, with four players reaching five or more kills on double-digit attacks. Kacee Salyers was the leader in kills with eight, while Anne Strevels had seven. Marian doubled Rio's total in kills 42 to 21.

Julie Hoying led the Knights with 17 assists, while Madi Heffron added 15. Salyers had a dominating performacne serving, leading the team with nine service aces. Vanessa Lay led in digs adding 15 to her season total. The Knights had a hitting percentage of .337 as a team. 

Game 2 | Marian 3-0 Midway

The Knights wrapped up their weekend in extremely fast fashion, needing just 58 minutes to get the win over Midway. Marking the sixth sweep of the year, Marian won 25-15, 25-15, 25-10. The match showed absolute domination from Marian, as they led in every statistical category. As a team Marian had 36 kills on 33 assists, while also tallying 15 service aces.

Salyers continued her aggressive approach to the ball, as she was the lone player in double-digit kills with 12. Frannie Stephenson had eight kills in the match, with Courtney Pierce recording six.  

The passing game was led by Heffron, who had a game-high 17 assists, while Hoying posted 14. Defensively, Megan Hawley, Vanessa Lay, and Salyers all had 10 digs. Salyers once again led Marian in services aces, posting six in this match to give her 15 for the day. Hoying, Hawley, and Maddie Keerns also had multiple service aces, recording three, two, and two, respectively. 

The Knights will be back in action this Wednesday as they get set to play their home opener. Marian will look to defend their six-match win streak when they take on Grace College to open Crossroads League play. The match begins at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night.
