Marion, Ind. - The Marian men's tennis team fell to Indiana Wesleyan in hard fought battle Saturday afternoon. After winning doubles play 2-1 over IWU, Marian was unable to have the same success in singles, as the Knights lost the match 6-3. Marian is now 1-1 in the Crossroads League.

Marian started out strong to open the match as the top two teams in the Crossroads League set to battle. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Nathan Bogle and Ian Deiters breezed past Eli Steiner and Daniel Zolnikov winning their match 8-2 to remain undefeated. In No. 2 doubles, Alex Wittenbaum and Noah Roberts won their first match of the season 8-4 over the Wildcats Gavin White and Jacob Rankin. Rounding out doubles play was the duo of Turner Lesnick and Nick Marroquin at No. 3 doubles, who were unable to pull out a win falling to Austin Christner and Joel Montgomery 8-4.

Holding a 2-1 lead entering the singles portion, all signs were pointing in Marian's way. Unfortunately, the Knights did not have as much luck, as Indiana Wesleyan took five out of the six matches. IWU's Steiner knocked off Bogle at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-4, while Zolnikov took down Roberts 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Marian's Wittenbaum lost a close match at No. 4 singles, dropping his match 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-8. Marroquin fell to Christner 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 singles, and Lesnick was bested by Tyler Abbott 6-1, 6-2.

The lone win for the Knights in singles was No. 2 Ian Deiters, who knocked off Montgomery 7-6 (5), 7-5.

Marian will travel to Taylor University on Tuesday for the first of their two matches next week. Tuesday's contest at Taylor will begin at 3:00 p.m. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
