INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian women's soccer team scored an early goal and added two more in the second half of a 3-0 win over Concordia (Mich.) Wednesday at St. Vincent Field. With the win, Marian is 3-2 on the season.

In Marian's previous two home matches it took no time at all for the Knights to get on the board, but it took 20 minutes for the Knights to find the back of the net Wednesday. Shots were far less plentiful than in the previous two matches, but when Kellie Cavanaugh found herself in a breakaway she didn't miss her chance. Cavanaugh carried the ball 30 yards before she and the keeper met in the box. However, the Marian forward was able to push the ball past and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The goal kept Marian in front through the break and in the second half the Knights had little trouble maintaining the lead. With 14 minutes to play, Courtney Denney put the game to bed with a header off a corner kick from Maria Farmer. With just over a minute left, Chloe Ulmer added another goal with a second chance on a breakaway.

The Knights outshot Concordia 16-8 and held a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks. Catherine Schmidt made four saves in the net.

Marian will return home Sept. 13 against Siena Heights at 7 p.m. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
